Nebraska footballs 2016 rebound following a 6-7 season was fantastic to watch, if not a bit frustrating at times. Just win, baby and all that..theiaPostSlider_nav._lower display none !importantRelated Story Five 2016 Seniors That Will Be Missed MostArticle continues below ...That said Husker fans knew all of the household names. Quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. who made 44 starts in his career. Jordan Westerkamp who finished the regular season with one reception in 36 straight games, one shy of the school record. Nate Gerry who tallied four interceptions and was named to the Associated Press and Pro Football Focus All-American teams. These players we know. What of the ones that made the season possible that maybe we dont give all the props in the world to They always exist and they rarely complain, if ever. They are the faithful team-oriented players that only want to win and see smiles on the faces of their coaches and teammates. Today, we celebrate five of the 2016 Nebraska football season.Quarterback Tanner LeeIt hard to argue that Armstrong isnt the signal-caller that Husker fans owe the most to in 2016 https://www.ducksfanscollegeshop.com/154-Ducks_Jaylon_Redd_Jersey. He gutted out injury after injury and if he could play, one way or another he found a way. However, there another quarterback that Huskers would be remiss to leave out of the picture. The best part is that he was never seen except when on the sideline, likely holding a clipboard and wearing a headset. This is Tanner Lee, a transfer from Tulane that likely has the inside track to become the starter at his position next year. A pro-style quarterback as opposed to Armstrong dual-threat approach, Lee made 19 starts as a member of the Green Wave. He had to sit out 2016 due to standard transfer rules, but the junior-to-be made the scout team hum.Having played two years at the college football level, Lee gave the Nebraska defense the feel of going up against a true threat under center. He was no slouch at Tulane having thrown for 200 yards on four occasions in 2015.Next Alonzo MooreBruce Thorson-USA TODAY SportsA soft-spoken and humble member of the Huskers, Moore struggled with injuries throughout the course of the season missing both the Illinois and Iowa games. Early on in the year, he helped Armstrong find his rhythm as a throwing quarterback starting with the Huskers season kickoff against the Fresno State Bulldogs. In a game that featured 51 rushing plays to only 13 passing attempts, Moore had three receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown Demetri Burch Jersey. One of the benefits of having him as a receiver is that at 62&8243; and with long strides, he was able to catch some of the passes that would have normally gone down as an overthrown ball.Moore would better his total the next week against Wyoming with a three-reception 109-yard performance that included another touchdown. While less of a factor against Oregon with three catches for 37 yards, he returned as a prominent member of the stat sheet when Nebraska took on Northwestern. He snagged three catches for 72 yards against the Wildcats, averaging 25.8 yards on 12 receptionsat that point.Unfortunately, those would be the best performances Moore would have. While he still contributed to the Huskers running efforts as a run blocker, he played banged up and was unable to rack up any more major receiving yardage. That said, without his effort in the early games, Westerkamp,Stanley Morgan Mattrell McGraw Jersey, Jr. and Brandon Reilly may not have been able to help Nebraska passing game nearly as often or as soon.Next Cole ConradJeff Hanisch-USA TODAY SportsNo, that not Conrad in the picture above. It actually the lineman that he would eventually replace. A sophomore walk-on from Fremont https://www.ducksfanscollegeshop.com/73-Ducks_Johnny_Mundt_Jersey, NE, it hard to imagine that Conrad saw himself getting as much playing time as he did in 2016.The 65&8243; 305-pound mammoth would step in for right tackle David Knevel once Knevel began suffering some nagging injuries. This would become a trend for Nebraska offensive line which saw the likes ofseniors Corey Whitaker and walk-on Sam Hahn step in and rotate at multiple positions.Conrad eventually found himself taking over for Knevel permanently as of the Ohio State game. While a 62-3 loss isnt exactly the best way to begin your career as a starter, he did show what he is capable of once the offensive line became healthy against Maryland. With left tackle Nick Gates, left guard Gerald Foster, center Dylan Utter, right guard Tanner Farmer and the now-starting Conrad in the game, Nebraska was able to shine versus the Terrapins. In a game that featured backup quarterback Ryker Fyfe starting for an injured Armstrong, the Big Red offensive line assisted the running game to the tune of 181 yards on 45 attempts .They helped shove Terrapin defenders around allowing running back Terrell Newby to rack up 98 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns on the day. With how Conrad ended out the season, there a good chance he starts spring practice with every opportunity to hang onto his starting spot.Next Kevin MauriceJeffrey Becker-USA TODAY SportsThe 2016 Nebraska defensive tackle corps took a hit when Maliek Collins and Vincent Valentine decided to enter the NFL Draft. Now a Dallas Cowboy and New England Patriot, respectively, the Huskers were still hoping to get the most out of the tackles that remained. Then a mass exodus happened. Avery Moss transferred to Youngstown State along with defensive back LeRoy Alexander while Kevin Williams decided to take his talents to East Lansing and joined up with the Michigan State Spartans https://www.ducksfanscollegeshop.com/125-Ducks_Wayne_Tei_kirby_Jersey. Finally, Greg McMullen decided to hang up the cleats to pursue a graduate degree and mentor youth.Suddenly a position that looked like it was going to be able to step up and stop the standard bruising rush offenses of the Big Ten looked awfully thin.Thankfully, Maurice was around to play the role of a defensive lineman with an offensive lineman attitude, so to speak. Quietly piling up stats as the season went on, he was credited with 35 total tackles , five tackles for loss , four sacks and two quarterback hurries as of the regular season end.He found himself taking on double teams frequently, allowing other tackles such as Carlos Davis to find room to make plays. In fact, thanks to Maurice, Davis was able to grow as a redshirt freshman and tally 22 tackles , 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two quarterback hurries.Maurice is another guy that kept his head down, did what was asked of him by first-year defensive line coach John Parrella and fought to keep his team on the winning end.Next Ross DzurisBruce Thorson-USA TODAY SportsConstantly grading out as at least the second-best defensive lineman on Parrella charts, walk-on Ross Dzuris brought more to his position than a suave mustache. The 62&8243; 255-pound Dzuris put up some of the most surprising defensive numbers of the season with 43 tackles , nine tackles for loss, five and a half sacks, a fumble return and a quarterback hurry. The statistics only tell part of the story, though. Much like Maurice was going to have to play a big role at defensive tackle once so many left, Dzuris had no choice but to be a crucial part of a line that would have to hold several rushing offenses at bay. With other starting defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun getting plenty of attention as the Huskers best pass rusher, Dzuris had to find his own way to excel. Thanks to his hard-nosed attitude, Nebraska defense was able to end the regular season ranked No. 34 overall when it came to stopping the run. It was also part of the top 34 percent in the nation when it came to holding offenses from scoring rushing touchdowns, allowing 18.A Plattsmouth, NE native, Dzuris reminded many of former Cornhusker Jack Gangwish, another walk-on who went on to practice with the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2015 season https://www.ducksfanscollegeshop.com/82-Ducks_Kaulana_Apelu_Jersey.Having graded out so well and being a focal point of a defense that required the best of him on every defensive down he was available, it hard to think that Parrella wont be singing his praises to any NFL franchise that comes calling.Next Kris BrownGreg Bartram-USA TODAY SportsThe impact of losing punter Sam Foltz in a tragic car crash that claimed his life and that of former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler weighed heavy on the minds of every member of the Nebraska football team. That said, one can only imagine how the specialists felt bringing Foltz jersey out to the bench before pregame warmups. Kicker Josh Brown had his own personal battle to fight. The biggest gut-punch was that he didnt have the senior, a hero to him, to enjoy a final season of being a teammate with, though the two would obviously always be the best of friends.
